Dear District Mission Assembly Participants,
On behalf of Brother Stanislaus Campbell, Visitor, and the District Mission Council, welcome to the 3rd District Mission Assembly. We would like to bring some information to your attention as we continue with preparations for the Assembly, which will take place August 1-4, 2010, at Saint Mary’s College of California.
Check-In
Check-in for the Assembly will take place between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. on
Sunday, August 1 in the lounge of Claeys North. A map of the campus is
enclosed. The Assembly will begin in the Soda Center at 3:00 p.m.
Accommodations
Most of the participants will be housed in one of two residence halls on the
Saint Mary’s College campus – Claeys North or Michael E. Ageno Hall (A).
(See attached map.) The College provides:
-
linens and towels
-
pillows/blankets (Some have found bringing your own pillow to be helpful.)
-
soap and
shampoo
-
mini
refrigerator and microwave oven
Meals All meals will be provided for you during the Mission Assembly. Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday dinners will be held in the Soda Center. All other meals will be in the Main Dining Room, Oliver Hall. Your nametag will act as your meal ticket – please be sure to have it with you when you enter the dining room. Once you have picked up your meal, we have been given use of Dryden Hall (attached to Oliver Hall) to sit and enjoy our meals.
Transportation If you are traveling to the Mission Assembly by car, there is plenty of parking in front of the residence halls where you will be staying. The closest airport to Saint Mary’s College is Oakland. You may choose to take a shuttle to the College or rent a car. If you are renting a car, please try to carpool with others from your school/area. Travel expenses are reimbursable. A form will be provided in the materials you receive at the Mission Assembly.
Technology Wireless service is available on campus, but not within the residence halls. To connect to the Saint Mary’s College system in the residence halls, please bring an Ethernet cable. User names and passwords will be provided to you at check-in. Three computers will be available to the participants in the Orinda Room, next to the main room, in the Soda Center. The St. Albert Hall Library also has a computer lab that will be available to you.
Assembly Overview Recently, an overview of the Mission Assembly was posted on the District website (www.delasalle.org). This overview is intended to provide a brief summary of the context and purpose of the Mission Assembly.
Emergency Contacts Cell phone coverage on campus may be spotty. Sprint and T-Mobile receive the best signals. In case of emergency, you may be contacted through the Public Safety Office at 925-631-4148. We know much work continues over these final few weeks. We thank the presenters, facilitators, and group leaders for their preliminary work, and the participants for their responses to the group leaders’ requests for information. Thank you also for doing the assigned readings and for continuing to consider what we might do in the District to make our works more accessible to students from families at or near the federal poverty levels. If you have any questions or concerns or need assistance in some way, please contact Jackie Berlogar at jberlogar@dlsi.org or 707-252-3721.
Thank you,
District Mission Council
